    ParaProfessionals must meet one of the following qualifications:

    Have 2 years of college credits or
    Have a college degree or
    Pass the ParaPro Praxis Assessment with a score of 457 or higher or the Idaho Paraprofessional Testing Alternative with a score of 75% or higher.

     
    Idaho Paraprofessional Testing Alternative testing dates are offered at the school district throughout the year to West Ada Paraprofessional applicants.  The test should be passed within 90 days of hire.

    PURPOSE
    To lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, social, and psychological growth and maturation.
     
    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
    The primary function of this position is to present information to elementary school students about basic computer skills and functions, following district adopted computer lab curriculum, records student progress, and reports student progress to teachers, maintains the computer lab in a neat and orderly manner, develops bulletin boards, exhibits, and related computer lab displays, and provides support for ISAT testing.  The position is supervised by the building Principal, and collaborates with Information Systems, the Curriculum Department, and the Department of Accountability and Assessment is required.  The primary duties of the position are performed in a computer laboratory/classroom environment.
     
    COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
    • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with others: contributes to the development of a positive school climate;
    • Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned;
    • Adhere to confidentiality with regard to student information;
    • Attend faculty meeting and conferences as directed by the Building Principal and participation in in-services activities and other professional growth opportunities;
    • Establish and maintain good working habits including punctuality;
    • Implement the beliefs, mission statement, objectives and parameters of the District's strategic plan.
    QUALIFICATIONS
    • High school diploma or GED equivalent;
    • Advanced technical or college-level coursework in computer science is preferred;
    • Classroom or other instructional experience is preferred, or
    • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
    • Knowledge of computer systems and operations, including hardware, software, networks, and functions including, but not limited to, keyboarding, word processing, graphics, spreadsheets, presentation software, research,  and internet functions;
    • Knowledge of instructional methods, procedures, and objectives, including lesson plans, curriculum implementation, educational software, and classroom management.
    • Must be able to communicate proficiently in English including both verbal and written communication with adults and students;
    • The ability to read and understand work related materials;
    • The ability to speak and communicate clearly in lessons to students as well as communications with peers, supervisors, patrons, and parents/guardians;
    • Must be able to accomplish simple mathematical concepts including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division;
    • The ability to observe and monitor student activities and conduct throughout the instructional day.
    • Follow oral and written instructions and observe District policies and procedures;
    • Operate and maintain computer systems, hardware, and software;
    • Develop and implement lesson plans, instruct students, and manage a classroom;
    • Analyze operating problems of software and hardware;
    • Operate standard office equipment;
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers and staff members, and other District personnel;
    • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
    • Demonstrate integrity, ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES
    • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal conversation and to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person;
    • Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work and assessments, prepare and review documents, and organize documents and materials;
    • Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to perform repetitive hand/wrist/arm motions and to operate a computer and office equipment;
    • Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and balance, with or without reasonable accommodation, and work in a classroom and computer laboratory environment,  lifting or moving objects that weigh up to 25 lbs.;
    • Job tasks require, with or without reasonable accommodation, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting and grasping;
    • Must have a valid Idaho Driver's license and a vehicle to drive and/or must provide own transportation for job related activities.
