Qualifications:

  • Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education or hold an associate’s (or higher) degree, or pass a formal state or local academic assessment of, knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing or assist in readiness for reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Appropriate State of Ohio certification (Aide Permit)
  • Demonstrate a sincere desire to aid all students
  • Good health, high moral character, and good attendance record
  • 18 years of age or more
  • Valid Driver’s License

General Description:

  • Provide educational support including tutoring, classroom management, organization of materials, and computer assistance for students under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher.  

Essential Functions:

  • Provide assistance for students when requested by the student or supervising teacher.
  • Is familiar and consistently adheres to the WCESC Policy handbook, District Code of Conduct, classroom routine and structure and each student’s individualized education plan.
  • As requested, will assist the classroom teacher and related service provider in the development, implementation, and documentation of student’s English Learning plan.
  • Assist student(s) participating in general education classes.
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds and assist children with physical and personal needs.
  • Ensure the safety of all students in the school environment by supervising students during periods of transitions.
  • Perform clerical duties such as duplicating materials, development of classroom materials and maintaining required records.
  • Assist in the maintenance and organization of classroom equipment and materials.
  • Maintain objectivity, professionalism, and confidentiality with students and parents.
  • Respond to all student in kind, fair and interested manner.
  • Promote good social relationships, communication, and interactions between students.
  • Serve as a role model for students by conducting themselves in a professional manner in dress, action, and language.
  • When requested, attend and participate in all appropriate meetings pertaining to needs of English Language Learners, team meetings, and staff meetings.
  • Complete all required training related to services being delivered to English Language Learners and any other applicable training related to the safe and effective management of students.
  • Assist teachers of English Language Learners in the classroom to increase student understanding and learning in the classroom, homework assignments, etc.  Work directly with tutoring students as needed.
  • Assist students and parents in the understanding of district and school procedures, such as: attendance, absence procedures, school bus transportation, discipline policy, and procedural processes.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a role model for students on how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings;
  • Helps instill in students the believe in practice of ethical principals and democratic values; and
  • Conducts other duties related to the paraprofessional’s duties as assigned by the supervisor, principal, and / or the local superintendent of schools.

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, tissue.
  • Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.
  • Occasion interaction among unruly children.
