General Description:
Paraprofessional/Educational Aides & Paraprofessional/Student Attendants are needed at Northwood Elementary School, for grades PreK through 6, to provide educational support including tutoring, classroom management, organization of materials, and computer assistance for students under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher.
Qualifications:
- Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education or hold an associate’s (or higher) degree, or pass a formal state or local academic assessment of, knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing or assist in readiness for reading, writing, and mathematics
- Appropriate State of Ohio certification (Aide Permit)
- Demonstrates a sincere desire to aid all students
- Good health, high moral character, and good attendance record
- 18 years of age or more
- Valid Driver’s License
Essential Functions:
- Provide assistance for students when requested by the student or supervising teacher.
- Is familiar and consistently adheres to the WCESC Policy handbook, District Code of Conduct, classroom routine and structure and each student’s individualized education plans.
- As requested, will assist classroom teacher and related service providers in the development, implementation, and documentation of student’s behavior plan and IEP goals and objectives.
- Assist student(s) participating in general education classes
- Be able to lift 50 pounds and assists children with physical and personal needs.
- Ensure the safety of all students in the school environment by supervising students during periods of transitions.
- Perform clerical duties such as duplicating materials, development of classroom materials and maintaining required records.
- Assist in the maintenance and organization of classroom equipment and materials.
- Maintain objectivity, professionalism, and confidentiality with students and parents.
- Respond to all students in a kind, fair and interested manner.
- Promote good social relationships, communication, and interactions between students.
- Serve as a role model for students by conducting themselves in a professional manner in dress, action, and language.
- Attend and participate in all appropriate meetings pertaining to the needs of special needs students, team meetings and staff meetings.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- 1. Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings;
- 2. Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values; and
- 3. Conducts other duties related to the paraprofessional’s duties as assigned by the supervisor, principal, and/or local superintendent of schools.
Additional Working Conditions:
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
- Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.
- Occasional interaction among unruly children.
