Description

St. Francis Xavier School in St. Joseph, Missouri, is seeking a full-time paraprofessional educator for its 2025-2026 school year. A paraeducator’s primary role is to offer students an extra level of support and guidance inside and outside of the classroom. This position will work one-on-one with students in our school. Paraprofessionals support the learning, language, therapy needs, and social-emotional well-being of students, so that they can experience inclusive education in the least restrictive environment. This position will report to the principal.


Responsibilities:

  • Assist with instructional support: This includes working one-on-one with students, preparing classroom materials and others as needed. Implement activities planned by classroom teacher.
  • Work with students individually, following him/her through the daily schedule.
  • Bridge communication between classroom teacher and student’s parents by providing a weekly progress report outlining assistance/modifications given for specific classes and subject area.
  • Based on child’s SEP (Student Education Plan) and teacher directives, implement modified curriculum activities to meet individual learning goals.
  • Provide for students’ social and emotional needs through respite activities.
  • Maintain records of all activities planned and completed.
  • Attend and participate in professional learning activities as assigned.
  • Encouraging positive peer interactions and social-emotional development
  • Promoting inclusivity and a sense of belonging
  • Empowering students to engage in classroom activities
  • Complete other assigned tasks.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Experience working with children or special needs population
  • Patience, flexibility, positive attitude
  • Familiarity with the Catholic understanding of ministry is an asset.
