    PARAPROFESSIONAL FOR STUDENT SUPPORT - SPECIAL EDUCATION AIDE

     

    Elementary School
    7.5 hours per day, 185 days per year prorated for remainder of the school year (in a full school year it would be 176 days of instruction and 9 paid holidays)
    Applicable verified experience will be recognized
    Compensation: Per OAPSE Salary Schedule


    Qualifications:                  

    Minimum high school diploma; additional training in fields of education or medical assistance is desirable
    Valid Ohio Aide Permit with the ESEA endorsement or the ability to obtain one as issued by Ohio Department of Education
    Submit a satisfactory background check as requested
     
    Reports to:
    Building Principal, Intervention Specialist(s)
     
    Job Goal:
    To assist the Intervention Specialist in implementing the educational program and to provide individual and small-group student tutoring
      
    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Assist the Intervention Specialist with the daily preparation and organization of materials and equipment for classroom instruction.
    • Assist the Intervention Specialist in the implementation of each child’s individual education plan; helping to develop gross motor, fine motor, cognitive, academic, language, speech, self-help, auditory, and personal/social skills.
    • Attend to children’s toileting and eating needs.
    • Assist children in non-classroom situations such as the cafeteria, playground, entering and exiting buses, etc.
    • Establish an appropriate rapport with students; providing motivation and reinforcement.
    • In the temporary absence of the teacher, provide behavioral control and monitoring of instructional activities.
    • Attend parent and staff meetings as requested by the building principal.
    • Attend professional development training as requested by the building principal. (Example: sign language training)
    • Comply with district policies and procedures.
    • Maintain a positive and professional appearance and demeanor.
    • Communicate effectively with staff and administration.
    • Assist with record-keeping. (Example:  daily communication log to parents)
    • Complete other school-related duties at the request of the building principal.
     Additional Working Conditions:
    • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
    • Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions, i.e., being prepared to come to school on all scheduled work days
    • Frequent and regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, bend, twist/turn, type/keyboard, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach above shoulders, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, climb steps, balance, kneel, and stoop
    • Occasional requirement to carry, lift, push, move, and pull items up to a maximum of 50 pounds
    • Ability to meet physical requirements on a daily basis  
    • Occasional exposure to fumes/airborne particles, inclement weather driving conditions; loud noise, repetitive hand motion, offensive odors, blood borne pathogens, contagious diseases, bodily fluids and tissue, and aberrant and dysfunctional behaviors which could be potentially harmful.
