Job Summary:
The ISS Paraprofessional is responsible for supervising and supporting students assigned to the In-School Suspension program. This role ensures that students remain in a structured, safe, and productive environment while completing academic assignments and understanding the behavioral expectations of the school. The ISS Paraprofessional serves as a positive role model and assists in maintaining an atmosphere conducive to learning and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise students assigned to In-School Suspension to ensure safety, compliance with school rules, and completion of academic work.
Monitor student behavior, maintain records of infractions, and report incidents to the ISS Coordinator or school administration.
Provide academic support and guidance as needed, including assisting with assignments, clarifying instructions, and promoting on-task behavior.
Communicate expectations clearly and consistently, using positive reinforcement and behavior management strategies.
Maintain a structured, respectful, and orderly ISS environment.
Coordinate with teachers to ensure that students receive and complete required classwork.
Support school administration in implementing behavioral interventions and restorative practices as appropriate.
Document attendance, behavior, and academic progress of students in ISS.
Assist with other duties related to student supervision and support as assigned by school administration.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework preferred.
Experience working with school-age children in an educational or behavioral support setting is preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
Knowledge of behavior management strategies and classroom support techniques.
Patience, flexibility, and a calm, professional demeanor when working with students in challenging situations.
Working Conditions:
Daily interaction with students who may display challenging behaviors.
Long periods of standing, walking, and observing students.
