ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Paraprofessionals may be assigned to one or more duties as assigned and may assist with, but not limited to the following: manage & maintain library, classroom, cafeteria, playground, bus supervision, Remediation, Special Education, in-school suspension, computer lab, etc.
- Work with severe needs children
- Providing small group/individual instruction for a variety of academics, as defined by student needs
- Working with individuals or small groups to implement accommodations and support as defined by IEP for academics, recreational activities, etc.
- Address behavior in a positive, growth-producing manner
- Provide computer-assisted learning
- Correcting and charting of work and data collecting
- Preparation of materials and keeping records as related to IEP
- Attending to all personal care needs as assigned throughout the educational environment. This might require transferring to and from wheelchair, toileting, personal hygiene and feeding
- Assist with issues of accessibility: lunch; opening doors; picking up and returning students to bus drop
- Provide motor therapy activities as requested and assigned by nurse, therapist, or teacher
- On a non-student day, assist in the department as assigned
- Attend planning meetings with teachers and special service staff
- Act as a member of a student de-escalation/restraint team
- Assists in maintaining materials inventory (e.g. library books, media equipment and related instructional materials, etc.) for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and ensuring the availability of materials when required.
- Performs circulation activities (e.g. item check-in and check-out, prepare circulation count, lists of overdue items, etc.) for the purpose of controlling the use, location and availability of items in the collection.
- Processes library books, periodicals, and related media materials (e.g. logging into master files; barcoding, shelving, producing required reports, etc. ) for the purpose of providing students and staff with required materials.
- Repairs books, periodicals, and related materials for the purpose of ensuring the availability of library reference and circulation materials.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or primary certified staff
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations
Other Requirements:
- Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed
- Experience working with children
- Sufficient strength, balance and mobility to safely transfer a motorically disabled person of 100 pounds in and out of a wheelchair with or without assistance
- Ability to work with children who have a variety of disabilities; specific responsibilities will change dependent on the nature of the child's disability
- Ability to work in a stressful environment
- Ability to respond to emergency situations/First Aid
- Ability to work as a team player; willingness to learn new skills
- Effective interpersonal/communication skills; ability to work under pressure
- Ability to input data and other information into school software programs
- Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed
- Willingness to be trained in areas of duty
- Willingness to be trained in de-escalation/restraint of students
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal English
Supplemental Information:
- This is a one year only position for the 2025-2026 school year.
- The State of Washington requires a State and Federal Fingerprint check before hiring any new employee.
- Cost of the background check and fingerprint is the responsibility of the prospective employee.
- Individual must meet one of the minimum paraeducator employment requirements
- Passing score on state approved paraeducator assessment
- Hold an associated degree or higher from an accredited college or university
- Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university.
- Employee required to complete annual training towards state required paraeducator certificates
- 180 day contract - 6.5 hours/day
- Salary per PSE Salary Schedule
