    Position Summary:  The special education paraprofessional supports students with IEPs and teachers in the delivery of instruction and data collection on tasks and assessments.  The special education paraprofessional supervises and monitors students in small group settings and during transitional activities.   
     
    The one-on-one special education paraprofessional works directly with one student to provide physical, behavioral, and academic support based on needs identified in the student’s IEP
     
    Position Responsibilities

     
    • Performs duties under the direction of the special education teacher/special education team
    • Supports instructional tasks with individual and small groups of students in a classroom setting, both in a special education classroom and a general education classroom
    • Supervises students with IEPs in various settings and locations
    • Provides reinforcement for academic and behavioral skills
    • Assists in the collection of data on students’ progress
    • Assists students with developmentally appropriate life skills activities
    • May assist with fine motor functions, movement, positioning, etc.
    • May perform functions such as toileting, diapering, feeding
    • May assist with occupational and physical therapy
    • May supervise students on school transportation
    • May participate in multidisciplinary meetings or IEP meetings as requested
    • Participates in professional development and training required by the District
    • Perform other duties as requested or assigned
     
    Required Knowledge, Skills & Ability:
    • Knowledge of student disabilities and best practices
    • Ability to supervisor and monitor students in a variety of settings
    • Ability to communicate effectively
    • Ability to take initiative to complete required tasks
    • Demonstrate cultural competency
    • General computer and office skills
     
    Minimum Qualifications
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Associate degree or higher
    • Two years of verifiable college course work (48 semester hours) OR the ability to successfully pass the WorkKeys proficiency test
    • Valid Colorado Driver's License
    • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) is required within two months of hire. 
    • CPR and First Aid Certification is required within two months of hire.
     
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Preference given to individuals who have taken classes in education and/or successfully demonstrated their ability to work with young children
    Essential Physical Requirements
    • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
