Summary
We are seeking TWO dedicated and compassionate individual to support students with special needs in a K-8 educational setting at Endeavour Elementary Wing/Middle School. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers and specialists to create a positive and inclusive learning environment, helping students achieve their academic and personal goals. This full-time position requires a commitment to fostering the growth and development of each student while promoting their independence and self-advocacy.
Responsibilities
- Assist classroom teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and modifications for students with diverse learning needs.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students during instructional activities and assessments.
- Help manage classroom behavior and implement positive behavior support strategies.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to create a supportive learning environment.
- Monitor student progress and document observations, providing feedback to teachers and parents as needed.
- Assist with daily living skills and personal care tasks for students as required.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to special education.
- Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment, ensuring that materials and resources are accessible to all students.
- Support students during transitions between classes, lunch, and other activities, promoting social interactions and peer relationships.
- Uphold confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with students, families, and staff.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field preferred. If you do not hold an associates degree, you will need to become highly qualified.
- Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of special education laws, practices, and IEP processes.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and collaborate with staff.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support the learning and development of students with diverse needs.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and adapt to changing situations.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with educational technology.
- Certification as a paraprofessional or willingness to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.
- First Aid and CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
