PARAPROFESSIONAL - SPLIT FUNDED - AT RISK(31A)/SPECIAL EDUCATION

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to assist students with academic tasks and behavioral supports
  • Ability to communicate well with staff, students and parents 
  • Ability to work with students with behavioral concerns 
  • Utilize an MTSS approach to supporting students both academically and behaviorally 
  • Assist in collecting behavioral and academic data 
  • Utilize restorative practices to assist students in problem solving and taking ownership of choices to build social/emotional skills
  • Build positive relationships with students, staff, and families 
  • Ability to work well within a team structure 
  • Willingness to initiate communications with teachers, and the building principal regarding student progress 
  • Reinforcing instruction by assisting the teacher in administering activities for individuals or small groups 
  • Complementing instructional activities, such as assisting the teacher during the lesson by helping students who may need additional support with instruction or behavior 
  • Supplementing instruction by assisting the teacher with individuals or small groups of pupils on follow-up activities as specified 
  • Providing instructional support services under the supervision of a teacher 
  • Willingness to attend training on various topics pertaining to early childhood 
  • Accurately complete time and effort logs documenting daily activities noting specific activities and students being supported 
  • Provide special education support per student IEPs under the direction of the building principal
  • Other duties as assigned by the building administrator as allowable under Section 31a Guidelines. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:  High School diploma or equivalent is required and applicants MUST be "Highly Qualified" as required under NCLB – this requires 60 or more college credits or a passing score of 460 on the ETS Parapro Assessment. Previous experience in childcare preferred. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to push items of 50 lbs., such as pushing children on a bike, in a wheelchair, or moving/rearranging furniture. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision. 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  School Year Employment - student days only, 6.5 hours/day (32.5 hours/week), 7:40 a.m. to 2:40 p.m.

SALARY:  Based on Paraprofessional Bargaining Unit Agreement. 

LOCATION:  Dawson Elementary
