    The PK-5th grade classified student support specialist is assigned to multiple schools and works in conjunction with a certified student support specialist to provide positive, proactive intervention and support based on student needs. 

     

    Full Time; 185 Days Per Year; Comer and Colbert Elementary 

     

    Qualifications:

     
    • Must hold a paraprofessional certificate or be eligible to hold one, i.e., meet the requirements of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, possessing an Associates Degree or the equivalent of two years of college or successfully passed the appropriate state or national test.  Documentation must be provided with the application. 

    • Registered Behavior Technician preferred.

    • Experience working with children is preferred.

    • Experience working as a paraprofessional is preferred.

     

    Job Duties:

     
    • Assists the Certified Student Support Specialist and school staff with the implementation of intervention and prevention strategies for students, including the implementation of individualized service plans. 

    • Assists and collaborates with the Certified Student Support Specialist and school staff on data collection to support the development of intervention plans and monitoring of plans. 

    • Assists with maintaining necessary records and reports, ensuring confidentiality of students and their families.  Inputs information for student services in a shared database. 

    • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. 

    • Collaborates with school staff to intervene with students in need of social-emotional support and instruction.  Supports the implementation of interventions for students identified as needing strategic support (such as Check-in/Check-out).

    • Assists with the collection of data during Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and to progress monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP). 

    • Assists with teaching of appropriate academic and social behaviors, models replacement behaviors, delivers social skill instruction. 

    • Works with students in small groups and individually to provide support.

    • Assists with paperwork, record keeping, and data collection. 

    • Must be able to work independently and take direction. 

    • Must be Mindset trained or willing to be trained in Mindset de-escalation and restraint techniques.
