    JOB TITLE: PARAPROFESSIONAL/TEACHING ASSISTANT

     

    LOCATION:  Lake Bluff Middle School

     

    CHARACTERISTICS:  Classified employee, Follows posted work calendar

     

    REPORTS TO:  Building Principal

     

    EVALUATION:  Evaluated yearly by the building administration, with input from the Director of Special Services, in accordance with the Board of Education Policy on Evaluation of Personnel.

    PAY: $20.00/hr, 33.75 hour work week

     

    OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

     

    Supports special needs children during the school day, under the supervision of certified staff.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

     

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

     
    1. Works with student(s) to reinforce lessons initially introduced by the teacher(s).

    2. Assists individual children in need of special attention.

    3. Guides independent study and modified work prepared by the teacher(s) where and when needed.

    4. Assists with instructional practices and procedures at the teachers' discretion.

    5. Assists teachers with non-instructional classroom duties including but not limited to:

       
      1. Clean up routines

      2. Duties related to supervision of playground, study hall, bus loading, assemblies, and field trips etc.

    6. Assists students in special area classes where appropriate.

    7. Alerts teachers to any problem or special information about students.

    8. Assists with any other projects assigned by teacher(s) and/or building administration.

     

    REQUIREMENTS

     
    1. High School diploma.

    2. NCLB and State paraprofessional certification.

    3. Specialized training (i.e. restraint training, etc.) as needed.

    4. Valid First Aid/CPR cards preferred. 

     


    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

     

    Ability to move freely to various locations within the building and perform duties (typically involving frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and lifting).  Frequent repetitive activities, including hands and arms, for clerical related work.  Occasional exposure to noise and activity of a school setting. Ability to travel outside the district for a variety of meetings and conferences.
