Paraprofessional
Position Purpose
The School District of Bayfield seeks individuals of the highest caliber whose creativity, enthusiasm, and energy inspire those around them. We are looking for dedicated professionals to work with students eligible for Special Education who are energetic, collaborative, patient, and highly skilled. Successful candidates will demonstrate initiative and the ability to work effectively with teachers, related service providers, and administrators.
Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, to assist certified professional staff with students in the classroom to meet instructional and social/emotional goals and objectives.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist students in class or hallway, during lunch/recess, bus loading, recess, field trips, and/or leisure activities as needed.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality and do not release any personal information concerning any student except to the classroom teacher to whom assigned or administration and refers parent questions/concerns to the regular education or special education teachers.
- Assist with processes and procedures, including, but not limited to, emergency procedures, building orientation, student vulnerability, data collection, and classroom management.
- Assist students in academic areas such as reading, writing, and/or math. This includes implementing curriculum, adapting instructional materials/strategies, and collecting data on academic progress under the direction of a licensed teacher.
- Support licensed teachers in the implementation of a variety of behavioral management techniques and social emotional supports as needed and collect data regarding student progress in this area.
- Supporting students with functional needs (self-care, mobility, etc.) as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher and administration.
Travel Requirements
- Travel between schools or to student homes may be required for certain positions.
- The position may require supervision of the AM or PM school bus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students.
- Ability to understand, apply, and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Gmail/Google classroom, Canvas).
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others contacted in the course of work.
- Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
?Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
- Works in standard office and school building environments.
- Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to participate in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training in order to attain certification.
?Qualifications Profile
- Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
- Successful completion of college level coursework or passing of examination as required by the Every Student Succeeds Act.
- Prior experience working with special needs children is desirable.
- Must hold or be eligible for a Special Education Program Aide License unless the individual holds any valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (WDPI) License. If a candidate does not currently hold said licensure, the application must be submitted within 30 days of employment.
Job Type: Full-Time School Year
Salary: $25.39/hr
