Pre School Paraprofessional

Job Description 

 

Qualifications: Pre School Paraprofessionals will hold a High School Diploma or GED. Candidates must have at least twelve (12) semester hours of undergraduate or graduate credit in child development/early childhood education, or the equivalent in prior training or experience.  Candidates with a minimum of six (6) semester hours of college credit in Early Childhood Education will be considered, an additional six (6) semester hours of college credit in Early Childhood Education must be obtained within a year of hire date.

 

Length of Contract and Hours: A Pre School Paraprofessional will work approximately 174 Days per calendar year and up to 37.5 hours per week.

 

Immediate Supervisor:  Building Principal.

 

General Job Description: The Paraprofessional works under the direction and supervision of a teacher or other designated member of the school staff.  Assists the teacher in the education, care, supervision, and instruction of pre-school aged children, in classrooms, common areas, and playgrounds at a center dedicated to pre-kindergarten children, and in the community.

 

Specific Job Functions:  

 

  1. Support teachers in meeting the instructional, educational, behavioral, and social emotional needs of students in the classroom.
  2. Assist the teacher in delivering lessons, which can include distributing materials, helping with activities, and reinforcing concepts with individual students of small groups.
  3. Provide constant supervision to ensure safety and a positive experience in the classroom, during lunch and recess, and on field trips.
  4. Attend to students’ physical, academic, and emotional needs, which may include assisting with personal care like toileting and hygiene, providing encouragement, and helping with mobility or access to materials.
  5. Help maintain a neat and organized classroom environment, manage student behavior, and implement the teacher’s strategies for classroom management.
  6. Assist with clerical duties like preparing materials, taking attendance, and , in some cases, tracking student progress or helping with communication to parents.
