RESOURCE ROOM- SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER- SWAMPSCOTT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

 

We are seeking a passionate and skilled professional to conduct comprehensive evaluations, develop and implement individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and provide regular progress reports. This role involves delivering specialized instruction and appropriate accommodations to students with learning disabilities in reading, writing, and mathematics. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of utilizing structured, direct, sequential, systematic, and multi-sensory instructional techniques to effectively teach decoding, encoding, phonemic awareness, and reading comprehension. Experience with explicit instruction in content-relevant vocabulary, familiarity with Assistive Technology, and knowledge of strategies for teaching executive functioning skills are essential. Excellent communication skills are also required to foster strong partnerships with families.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Complete evaluations, write IEPs, and progress reports
  • Provide specialized instruction and accommodations to students with learning disabilities in reading, writing and mathematics
  • Knowledge of utilizing a structured, direct, sequential, systematic, multi-sensory instruction to teach decoding/encoding and phonemic awareness, and reading comprehension
  • Explicit instruction in content-relevant vocabulary
  • Knowledge of Assistive Technology
  • Knowledge of teaching executive functioning skills
  • Communication with families

 

Qualifications: 

  • Master’s level preferred 
  • 3 years of experience preferred 
  • Moderate Disabilities DESE certification in the required grade level
  • Orton-Gillingham Instruction or Wilson Reading Certification required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with all stakeholders, including students, colleagues, and families/caregivers
  • A growth mindset

Physical Requirements: 

This position may require long periods of sitting, talking or hearing in person and by telephone, using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls; reaching with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. The individual may be exposed to ultraviolet lights as are found in computer monitors and copying equipment. The individual may be exposed to various hazards in the building.
