    Stevens High School is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Para-Educator to work specifically within The Academy, an alternate pathway designed for students needing a non-traditional route to graduation. The Academy utilizes a blend of independent online coursework, small-group instruction, and personalized support to ensure students meet state standards and earn their high school diploma.

     

    The successful candidate will be a critical part of a small team, focused on facilitating student progress, building positive relationships, and ensuring a structured, supportive learning environment.

     

    Key Responsibilities

     
    • Small-Group and Individual Student Support: Work with students, primarily in small groups (2-5 students) or one-on-one settings, to provide academic guidance, mentorship, and encouragement.

    • Online Course Facilitation: Actively monitor student progress on various online learning platforms (e.g., Edgenuity, Odysseyware, etc.). Provide technical assistance and help students navigate course structures, objectives, and pacing.

    • Academic and Organizational Assistance: Help students develop and maintain effective organizational skills, time management strategies, and study habits necessary for success in a self-paced learning environment.

    • Behavior and Classroom Management: Support the Lead Teacher in maintaining a positive, focused, and productive learning atmosphere. Gently redirect students and employ de-escalation strategies as necessary.

    • Data Collection and Reporting: Document student attendance, progress, and behavioral observations. Regularly communicate updates and concerns to the Lead Teacher and relevant support staff.

    • Motivating and Mentoring: Serve as a positive role model and mentor. Help students set short-term goals, celebrate achievements, and address academic or emotional barriers to learning.

    • Collaboration: Participate in regular team meetings with the Lead Teacher, Guidance Counselors, and administrators to discuss student needs, program development, and intervention strategies.
