JOB GOALS:
The Coordinator of Special Education and Student Services supports the Director in the implementation,
coordination, and monitoring of districtwide special education and student support services. The Coordinator
works closely with school leaders, educators, service providers, families, and community partners to ensure
students receive timely, equitable, and high-quality services in accordance with applicable federal and state
requirements.
The Coordinator serves as a key operational and instructional support to the Director, helping to ensure
effective implementation of IEPs and 504 Plans, compliance with timelines, coordination of related services,
data collection, professional learning, and systems of support for students with disabilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
● Support the Director in the implementation and monitoring of districtwide special education programs
and services.
● Monitor IEP and 504 timelines and support school teams in ensuring timely completion and
implementation.
● Assist with coordination and scheduling of IEP meetings, including communication with families, school
teams, and service providers.
● Review IEP documentation for completeness, accuracy, compliance, and alignment with student needs.
● Provide technical assistance to teachers, case managers, administrators, and related service providers
regarding special education processes and procedures.
● Support school teams in implementing accommodations, modifications, supplementary services, and
behavioral supports identified in student plans.
● Assist in monitoring the delivery of related services, including speech-language, occupational therapy,
counseling, and other designated services.
● Partner with site leaders and general education staff to strengthen inclusive practices and ensure
students with disabilities have meaningful access to instruction and school activities.
● Assist with monitoring compliance with IDEA, Section 504, ADA, California Education Code, and
applicable AIMS policies and procedures.
● Maintain accurate records and documentation related to special education services, IEPs, 504 Plans,
referrals, evaluations, and compliance.
● Support the Director with preparation for compliance reviews, audits, mediations, complaints, and
other special education matters.
● Assist with collecting, analyzing, and presenting special education data related to student outcomes,
service delivery, compliance, staffing, and program effectiveness.
● Identify trends, gaps, and areas of concern and communicate findings to the Director and appropriate
school leaders.
● Support implementation of professional development and technical assistance for staff related to
special education, inclusion, IEP implementation, behavior supports, and student services.
● Assist in coordinating professional learning, meetings, and trainings for special education staff and
school teams.
● Support the implementation of MTSS, PBIS, SEL, and other integrated systems of student support in
collaboration with school leaders and the Director. The Director's existing role includes oversight of
these systems.
● Assist with coordination of wraparound services and connections to community-based resources.
● Support student attendance, behavioral, social-emotional, and wellness initiatives as assigned by the
Director.
● Collaborate with families and support staff to address concerns and facilitate timely communication
and problem-solving.
● Assist in coordinating services for students requiring additional academic, behavioral, social-emotional,
or community-based supports.
● Support communication and coordination with SELPA, county agencies, service providers, and
community partners as directed by the Director.
● Assist with maintaining current knowledge of special education laws, regulations, policies, and
evidence-based practices.
● Provide school-site support during implementation of special education and student services systems.
● Participate in school-site observations, meetings, and problem-solving sessions as assigned.
● Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment when handling sensitive student
and family information.
● Support the Director with special projects, reports, presentations, and districtwide initiatives.
● Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and Student Services.
● Perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
● Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, School
Psychology, Counseling, or a related field preferred.
● Minimum of three years of experience working in special education, student services, education, or a
related field.
● California special education credential, pupil personnel services credential, or related credential
preferred, depending on assignment.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
● IDEA, Section 504, ADA, and applicable California Education Code provisions.
● IEP and 504 development, implementation, and monitoring.
● Special education instructional practices and inclusive service delivery.
● Student support systems, including MTSS, PBIS, and SEL.
● Compliance timelines, documentation, and procedural safeguards.
● Data collection and analysis related to student services.
● Family engagement and collaborative problem-solving practices.
● Experience supporting IEPs, 504 Plans, student support systems, or related services preferred.
● Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and service delivery models.
● Experience working collaboratively with educators, administrators, families, and related service
providers.
● Experience with data collection, documentation, compliance monitoring, and case management
preferred.
