SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, the position will coordinate the activities of teachers and other staff providing instruction, evaluation, or other special education services to eligible students. This position will provide assistance and support to the Director of Special Education with select responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, Other duties maybe assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
• Collaborates with school teams to facilitate behavioral and engagement best practices for individual students.
• Develop and support the District’s Emotionally Disabled Private (EDP, Ventana).
• Coordinate and deliver district wide Special Education behavior coaching initiatives and cares for all district staff.
• Coordinate and deliver district wide Special Education behavior coaching initiatives and cares for Behavior Specialists.
• Design, coordinate, and implement professional development of Special Education New Teacher Induction and Special Education All Staff Day.
• Assist and coordinate the planning and conducting of half day in-service training opportunities for Special Education staff.
• Design, coordinate, and implement professional development for the Vail Transportation Department.
• Create and facilitate on-line behavioral training opportunities for all district staff.
• Create and maintain online platforms, such as Looking Glass and Schoology, for behavioral training opportunities.
• Maintain on-line Special Education policies and procedures information via Infusion.
• Provide technical assistance to school teams in the areas of assessment, curriculum development, use of materials and equipment, and management of student behavior and engagement.
• Work with site Special Education teams to develop and implement in Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans.
• Assist in evaluating special education district personnel according to established criteria.
• Work with school site administration to ensure identified staff’s participation in Physical Assistance for Safety training.
• Coordinate and conduct Physical Assistance for Safety trainings.
• Co-Coordinate the Behavior Education Support Team (BEST).
• Attend and collaborate at Assistant Principal’s meetings.
• Attend meeting and collaborate with the district wide PBIS team.
• Respond to parent inquiries in writing, phone call, electronic, and in person.
• Addresses staff and public to elicit support and explain program goals and objectives
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• A Master’s degree in Education Leadership or Special Education or other relevant field of study.
• Extensive experience working with students with special needs
• Demonstrated experience in progressive levels of special education administration.
• Or an equivalent combination of relevant education, experience, training, and skills as approved by the Superintendent.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license and proof of minimum automobile insurance.
Preference is a valid Arizona certificate or appropriate state licensing in an area of special education or approved related service (Speech/Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Psychology, Pre-K Special Education, Board Certified Behavior Analyst).
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common educational journals, reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from staff, parents, community members, or regulatory agencies. Ability to effectively present information to staff, public groups, and the Vail School District Governing Board.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense, understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram from. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner. Gathers and analyzes information skillfully, developing alternate solutions. Works well in group problem solving situations. Uses reason when dealing with emotional topics and situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must demonstrate appropriate temperament to sustain extended work hours and problem situations.

TRAVEL
This position requires frequent travel. The employee must be able to travel efficiently between school sites and the district office and to professional organization meetings and functions. Frequent travel within Pima County and within the state.
