    Job Overview:
    Watertown Mayer High School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Paraprofessional to join our team. This role is crucial in supporting students with special needs, providing academic, behavioral, and social assistance under the guidance of a special education teacher. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with students, strong communication skills, and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

     

    Key Responsibilities:

     
    • Assist the special education teacher in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students.
    • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with special needs in both general education and special education settings.
    • Support students in academic tasks, including reading, writing, mathematics, and other classroom activities.
    • Help manage and address behavioral challenges by implementing positive behavioral interventions and supports.
    • Facilitate social interactions and encourage peer relationships among students.
    • Assist with classroom organization and preparation of materials to meet student needs.
    • Monitor and document student progress, reporting observations to the special education teacher.
    • Supervise students during transitions, breaks, and other non-instructional times.
    • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff members to support student success.
    • Attend and participate in team meetings, professional development sessions, and training as required.
     

    Qualifications:

     
    • High school diploma or equivalent (required); associate’s degree or higher in education or a related field (preferred).
    • Highly qualified status required.
    • Previous experience working with children or adolescents, especially in an educational or special needs setting (preferred).
    • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
    • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to supporting students with diverse needs.
    • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
    • Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development.
     

    Physical Requirements:

     
    • Ability to lift and move up to [insert weight limit] pounds.
    • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
    • Ability to assist students with physical needs, including mobility assistance if necessary.
