    Job Description:

     

    Southampton County Public Schools is seeking a caring and enthusiastic  Special Education Paraprofessional to join our team at Carpron Elementary School. The Paraprofessional will assist the Special Education Teacher in providing a supportive, inclusive classroom environment for students with disabilities. This role involves offering individualized academic and behavioral support to help young learners reach their full potential.

     

    Key Responsibilities:

     
    • Assist the Special Education Teacher in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for Kindergarten students.
    • Provide one-on-one and small-group support during academic and developmental activities, ensuring students with disabilities receive appropriate assistance.
    • Modify classroom materials and activities as directed by the teacher to meet the unique needs of each student.
    • Support students with personal care tasks, such as feeding, toileting, and mobility, when necessary.
    • Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment, encouraging participation and social development among all students.
    • Monitor student progress and communicate observations to the Special Education Teacher.
    • Help with classroom management and promote positive behaviors.
    • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and specialists to provide comprehensive support for students.
    • Attend training sessions and participate in professional development opportunities as required.
     

    Qualifications:

     
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Associate degree or higher, or completion of at least 60 college credits preferred.
    • Previous experience working with young children, particularly in a special education setting, is highly desired.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Patience, empathy, and the ability to work effectively with children who have a variety of needs.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and staff to create a positive learning environment.
    • Must pass a background check and meet other state and district requirements.
     

    Preferred Qualifications:

     
    • Experience working with children with disabilities, particularly in early childhood or Kindergarten settings.
    • Knowledge of early childhood education practices and strategies for supporting diverse learners.
