Job Description:
Southampton County Public Schools is seeking a caring and enthusiastic Special Education Paraprofessional to join our team at Carpron Elementary School. The Paraprofessional will assist the Special Education Teacher in providing a supportive, inclusive classroom environment for students with disabilities. This role involves offering individualized academic and behavioral support to help young learners reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Special Education Teacher in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for Kindergarten students.
- Provide one-on-one and small-group support during academic and developmental activities, ensuring students with disabilities receive appropriate assistance.
- Modify classroom materials and activities as directed by the teacher to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Support students with personal care tasks, such as feeding, toileting, and mobility, when necessary.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment, encouraging participation and social development among all students.
- Monitor student progress and communicate observations to the Special Education Teacher.
- Help with classroom management and promote positive behaviors.
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and specialists to provide comprehensive support for students.
- Attend training sessions and participate in professional development opportunities as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree or higher, or completion of at least 60 college credits preferred.
- Previous experience working with young children, particularly in a special education setting, is highly desired.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to work effectively with children who have a variety of needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and staff to create a positive learning environment.
- Must pass a background check and meet other state and district requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with children with disabilities, particularly in early childhood or Kindergarten settings.
- Knowledge of early childhood education practices and strategies for supporting diverse learners.
