Vicksburg Community Schools, a premier K-12 public school district in southern Kalamazoo county, is accepting applications for a Elementary School Special Education Paraprofessional 

Our district serves over 2600 students in one high school, an alternative high school, one middle school, and three elementary schools and employs approximately 160 teachers and 200 other employees to meet the needs of our students.  Vicksburg Schools has a strong sense of community, demonstrated in the commitment to providing excellent schools and education for our children. 

This position works 7 hours Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM to 3:45 PM, student attendance days only. Times may vary slightly

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to support students with special needs in a elementary school setting. The Special Education Paraprofessional will work closely with teachers and other staff to provide individualized assistance to students, helping them achieve their academic and personal goals. This 35-hour/week position requires a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·       Must be of good health; and be able to lift, bend, and stretch, as job requires

·       Must have a good attendance record.

·       Must possess good decision-making skills.

·       Must be willing to grow professionally.

·       Must be flexible in work assignments.

·       Must demonstrate sociability and warmth in attitude toward students, other employees, and the supervisor.

·       Associates (or higher) degree, or have two years of college (60 credits), or have successfully passed the ETS Paraprofessional exam preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist classroom teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Maintain a safe and positive learning environment, addressing any behavioral issues in accordance with school policies.
  • Collaborate with special education staff, therapists, and other professionals to support student needs.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, including record-keeping and preparing materials for lessons.
  • Support students during transitions, including lunch, recess, and movement between classes.
