Summary
Canyon Ridge High School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Para Pro to support students with diverse learning needs in a part-time capacity. The ideal candidate will work closely with special education teachers and other staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment. This role is essential in helping students achieve their academic and personal goals while fostering independence and self-advocacy.
Responsibilities
- Assist special education teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and adapting instructional materials to meet the needs of students.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students during classroom activities, ensuring they understand the lesson material.
- Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and performance, reporting any concerns to the special education teacher.
- Support students with daily living skills and personal care as needed, promoting independence and self-sufficiency.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other staff members to develop and maintain a positive learning environment.
- Assist with classroom management and ensure a safe and welcoming atmosphere for all students.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education practices.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in special education or related field preferred or have successfully completed the ParaPro Assessment (Praxis Exam).
- Previous experience working with students with disabilities or in a special education setting is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and staff.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with diverse needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow directions from special education teachers.
- Basic knowledge of special education laws and practices, including IEPs and accommodations.
- Must pass a background check and any required assessments prior to employment.
