Summary:  The Special Education Paraprofessional assists teaching staff with students needing accommodations and helps implement positive behavior



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Under teacher direction, provide instructional and social-emotional/behavior accommodations and interventions
  • Assist students with health, medical or physical needs (eg transferring, diapering, bathrooming, etc)
  • Assist teams in the implementation of positive behavior support plans or emergency intervention plans
  • Assist teams with data collection 
  • Respect individual student strengths and needs and maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Actively support district, school, and classroom norms and philosophy
  • Professionally engage with parents, staff, and administrators in supporting student success
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Not applicable 

 

Direct Report: Building Principal 

 

Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:

Required:

  • At least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours); or
  • An associate's degree (or higher); or 
    • Demonstrate, through passage of an approved formal state academic assessment in the following areas: Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate 
  • Ability to read and understand instructional materials present to students
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with all students, staff and school community
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district and BOE policies
  • Three years in general administrative assistant work and/or training
  • Highly effective organization skills and takes initiative

 

Preferred:

  • Experience as a School Administrative Assistant and/or working in a school setting 
  • Additional training and/or education

 

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret communication including emails, letters, spreadsheet and forms  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from the community, regulatory agencies or staff members

 

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate basic mathematical formulas; add and subtract totals; multiply and divide; determine percentages and decimals; spatial aptitude to inspect length and weight of objects 

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

  • Position requires sustained periods of sitting and working on computer and office equipment

  • Position involves frequent repetitive action on a keyboard
