    Position Title: Special Education Paraprofessional

     

    Position Summary:

     

    The Special Education Paraprofessional provides direct instructional and behavioral support to students with severe disabilities across a variety of educational environments, including general education, special education, and one-on-one instructional settings. This role ensures the safety, engagement, and progress of students throughout the school day by working under the guidance of special education teachers and school administration.

     

    Qualifications:

     
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Experience working with students with disabilities, including meeting personal care needs.
    • Ability to effectively supervise students with special needs in various settings.
    • Strong collaboration skills for working closely with teachers, specialists, and support staff.
    • Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Demonstrated understanding of the academic, emotional, and physical needs of students with disabilities.
    • Willingness to be trained in and implement nonviolent crisis intervention and physical restraint procedures as needed.
    • Successful completion of all required criminal background checks and fingerprinting.
     

    Primary Responsibilities:

     
    • Support the implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs) by providing academic and behavioral assistance.
    • Supervise and assist students in classroom activities, transitions, and other school routines.
    • Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to promote student learning and inclusion.
    • Maintain accurate documentation and provide reports as requested by educators and administrators.
    • Assist students with physical needs, including lifting and transferring, when necessary.
    • Foster a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all students.
     

    Work Schedule, Salary & Benefits:

     
    • Work Schedule: 150 days per year, 7.5-hour workday, 4-day school week
    • Compensation: Based on the Classified Salary Schedule
    • Benefits: Health insurance, PERA retirement plan, Medicare contributions, and paid leave as outlined in the Classified Staff Handbook
