Summary
Robert Kerr Elementary is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. This full-time position is designed for an individual who is committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment for students with diverse learning needs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of various disabilities and the ability to create tailored educational plans that promote academic and social success.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with special needs, ensuring alignment with state and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and parents to create a cohesive educational experience for students.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instructional methods and strategies as needed to meet individual learning goals.
- Provide direct instruction and support in academic subjects, social skills, and daily living skills tailored to each student's needs.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and progress, and communicate regularly with parents and guardians.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student progress and make recommendations for additional support services.
- Stay current with best practices in special education, attending professional development workshops and training sessions as required.
- Foster a positive and safe classroom environment that encourages student engagement and promotes respect and understanding among peers.
- Advocate for the needs of students with disabilities within the school community and beyond.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid state teaching certification in Special Education.
- Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation, as well as knowledge of relevant laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
