We are seeking a dynamic Special Education Teacher to provide specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs across our K-5 grade levels. This multifaceted role includes working in inclusive classroom settings, providing targeted support in small group (pull-out) environments, and also offering instruction within a partially sub-separate setting for learners who benefit from a more specialized and individualized approach for a portion of their day. A significant aspect of this role involves working with students who may have experienced trauma, requiring a sensitive, understanding, and trauma-informed approach to instruction and classroom management.
Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Provide direct instruction and support to students with disabilities in general education classrooms (inclusion), utilizing co-teaching and other collaborative strategies.
Deliver targeted, individualized or small group instruction in a pull-out setting to address specific learning needs.
Plan and deliver instruction within a partially sub-separate setting, providing a more specialized and individualized learning environment for students with similar learning profiles for designated periods.
Collaborate closely with general education teachers and support staff to implement trauma-informed strategies and create a safe and predictable learning environment for all students.
Conduct and interpret assessments to identify students' strengths and needs, and contribute to the development of meaningful and measurable IEP goals and objectives across the continuum of services.
Utilize data to monitor student progress across all instructional settings, inform instructional decisions, and adjust interventions as needed, with a focus on understanding potential impacts of trauma on learning and behavior.
Maintain accurate and organized student records, including progress monitoring data and IEP documentation for all service delivery models.
Communicate effectively and regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, IEP implementation across all settings, and school-related matters, with sensitivity to potential family dynamics related to trauma.
Collaborate effectively with related service providers (e.g., speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, school psychologists, counselors, social workers) to provide comprehensive and coordinated support to students, particularly those with trauma backgrounds.
Participate actively in IEP team meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other school-based meetings.
Stay current on best practices in special education, including strategies for both inclusive and more specialized settings, as well as trauma-informed practices and their application in the educational setting, through professional development opportunities.
Contribute to a positive and supportive school culture that values diversity and inclusion and understands the importance of a continuum of services and trauma-sensitive approaches.
Adhere to all school and district policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Special Education Administrator.
