Job Description
Faxon Academy is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to support students with disabilities in grades K–8. This role combines direct instructional responsibilities with program coordination to ensure high-quality special education services and compliance with all applicable regulations.
The ideal candidate is student-centered, collaborative, and knowledgeable about special education best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialized instruction and support services to students with disabilities in grades K–8
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Coordinate special education services and programs across grade levels
- Ensure compliance with state and federal special education laws and regulations
- Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, service providers, and families
- Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation and reports
Qualifications
- Minimum of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field preferred
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate (Special Education endorsement preferred)
- Knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, and compliance requirements
- Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills
- Experience working with K–8 students preferred
