Special Education Teacher (Maternity Leave Coverage) for grades 5th and 6th to provide targeted instruction and support to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) during a temporary leave period. This role focuses on addressing each student’s unique learning needs while collaborating with staff to ensure access to grade-level curriculum for all learners.
Primary Responsibilities
Build and maintain positive, supportive relationships with students
Provide direct instruction in one-to-one, small group, and inclusive classroom settings
Plan and deliver lessons aligned with individual student needs as outlined in IEPs
Modify assignments and homework to support student access and success
Collaborate with classroom teachers on instructional strategies, accommodations, and modifications
Participate as an active member of the support services team
Conduct informal assessments to monitor student progress
Implement and, as needed, update IEP goals and objectives
Write and maintain IEP documentation reflecting current performance, next steps, and grade-level expectations
Complete trimester progress reports during the coverage period
Monitor and support students’ academic, behavioral, and social development
Communicate regularly with families, including scheduling and facilitating IEP meetings as needed
Promote student independence by helping students:
Identify strengths
Recognize areas of need
Understand their learning profiles
Develop effective learning strategies

Meet all timelines in compliance with state and federal regulations during the coverage period
Maintain organized and up-to-date student records in accordance with guidelines
Keep communication logs current
Maintain strict confidentiality
Follow through on supervisor recommendations and required timelines
Qualifications
Massachusetts licensure in Moderate Special Needs required

This is a temporary position to cover a maternity leave
Anticipated dates: September 1, 2026- January 31, 2027
Maximum of 30 hours per week.
