Position: Special Education Teacher for 7th grade
Location: Orchard View Middle School
Reports to: Building Principal

Position Available: 2025/2026 Academic Year
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a valid Michigan General Middle School teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement and meet state requirements in the area of certification (Any one of SA, SE. SM or SV endorsements required)
- Must meet criteria for “highly qualified” status under No Child Left Behind Act
- Recent teaching experience at or near level and subject being applied for is desirable
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Must follow district and state curricula and assessment requirements
- Must have satisfactory rating in most recent performance evaluation (formal or informal)
- Knowledge of current curriculum trends and ability to write and develop new curricular direction in varied subject areas
- Input/participation in building and district committee structure to develop new curricular guidelines for all ages
- Commitment to work effectively with fellow staff members, including co-teaching/teaming delivery of service
- Recent middle school special education teaching experience preferred
- Complete and submit all required paperwork, i.e., IEP’s, transition plans, Medicaid billings, behavior intervention plans, etc.
- Knowledge of technology as instruction tools or willingness to become knowledgeable through independent training as soon as possible and commitment to use same regularly to enhance instruction effectiveness
- Knowledge of, and ability to implement cooperative learning strategies on a regular basis
- Knowledge of an ability to implement higher order thinking skill development on a regular basis
- Knowledge of and ability to regularly use the writing process and expository writing to enhance teaching and learning
- Desire to develop an interdisciplinary approach to delivering instructional outcomes
- Follow and implement all Board of Education policies, administrative guidelines, and building regulations
- Willingness to perform other duties as necessary and/or directed by the principal and/or special education administrator
