Special Education Teacher - Full Time
 Current opening is Developmental Cognitive Delay (DCD) focus in the Middle School.

General Definition of Work
Performs difficult professional work teaching students with disabilities in a Resource Room and/or general education setting; serving as Case Manager for students, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of building principals, special education building level coordinator, and the Special Education Director. Continuous oversight is exercised over paraprofessionals.

Essential Functions

• Instructs students at the elementary and secondary level with disabilities in a resource room and/or general education setting; prepares lesson plans to suit each students' academic, functional, and social-emotional needs; provides appropriate support to students receiving special education services; provides instruction in language arts, math, writing, functional/daily living, social studies, science, and social, emotional, and behavioral skills.
• Serves as Case Manager in the Special Education Department; writes and implements IEPs; facilitates IEP teams for students; evaluates each student's academic and/or behavioral progress; counsels students with regard to transition services, work experience, and further education; writes progress reports as required.
• Consults/collaborates with administration, general education staff, special education personnel, parents, students, and agencies for the purpose of ensuring the appropriate delivery of services in adherence to due process requirements; contacts parents and/or guardians to discuss students' progress.
• Maintains student records; prepares reports and correspondence.
• Provides support designed to ensure an effective and cohesive program; coordinates the placement of students with special needs into the mainstream; provides services for special needs students attending private/home school; meets with teachers and student accommodation and modifications; develops positive behavior intervention plans that can be implemented across school settings.
• Assists and administers District and State standardized testing; mentors Teachers upon request; trains and directs paraprofessional staff; order classroom materials and supplies as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of State of Minnesota Due Process requirements and District emergency procedures; thorough knowledge of SPED Forms, Minnesota State Standards, Special Education Curriculum - IEP Goals and Objectives; general knowledge of community resources; some knowledge of third party billing; ability to assist or reteach skills; ability to understand the needs of children with disabilities, behavior interventions, sensory activities, and assistive technology modifications; thorough knowledge of standard office equipment; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages; ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, student, parents, and elected officials.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree with coursework in Special Education, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
Minnesota special education teaching license in one or more disability categories issued by PELSB.


Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires standing, walking, and sitting and occasionally requires using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and exposure to bodily fluids; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Preferred:
Experience with student communication devices (for DCD position)

Pay: $51,974 - $84,000 annually
        *dependent on education and experience
