Special Education Teacher - Full Time

General Definition of Work
Performs difficult professional work teaching students with disabilities in a Resource Room and/or general education setting; serving as Case Manager for students, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of building principals, special education building level coordinator, and the Special Education Director. Continuous oversight is exercised over paraprofessionals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of State of Minnesota Due Process requirements and District emergency procedures; thorough knowledge of SPED Forms, Minnesota State Standards, Special Education Curriculum - IEP Goals and Objectives; general knowledge of community resources; some knowledge of third party billing; ability to assist or reteach skills; ability to understand the needs of children with disabilities, behavior interventions, sensory activities, and assistive technology modifications; thorough knowledge of standard office equipment; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages; ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, student, parents, and elected officials.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree with coursework in Special Education, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minnesota special education teaching license in one or more disability categories issued by PELSB.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires standing, walking, and sitting and occasionally requires using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and exposure to bodily fluids; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Pay: $51,974 - $84,000 annually
