Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Life Skills Special Education Teacher to join our team at Central High School. The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting students with significant learning needs as they develop functional academics, independent living skills, social communication, and postsecondary readiness. This full-time position requires a flexible, student-centered educator who can design and implement individualized instruction aligned with students’ IEPs and transition goals, while fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs with a strong emphasis on life skills, functional academics, and transition planning.
- Provide direct instruction in areas such as independent living skills, functional literacy and numeracy, social communication and self-advocacy.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, parents, and support staff to ensure a cohesive educational experience for students.
- Provide direct instruction in independent living skills, functional literacy and numeracy, social communication and self-advocacy, and vocational readiness and employability skills.
- Design and adapt instructional materials and teaching techniques to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Implement community-based instruction experiences to support real-world skill development.
- Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress toward IEP goals and transition outcomes.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, understanding, and cooperation among students.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress, and communicate regularly with parents and guardians.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education.
- Advocate for students' needs within the school and community, fostering relationships with outside agencies as necessary.
- Collaborate with school administration to ensure compliance with all federal and state special education regulations.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field.
- Valid state teaching certification in Special Education.
- Experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in a high school setting.
- Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of educators, parents, and community members.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance learning.
- Commitment to inclusive practices, student dignity, and strengths-based instruction.
