Overview

Primary Purpose:
New Oaks Academy at Belmont is seeking a dedicated, student-centered Special Education Teacher to join our multidisciplinary team. In this role, the teacher is responsible for designing and delivering specialized instruction tailored to the diverse academic and behavioral needs of students with disabilities. Working under the guidance of the Site Principal and Director of Student Services, the Special Education Teacher ensures all students receive appropriate accommodations and modifications to access the curriculum and achieve measurable growth.

This position also includes case management responsibilities, including the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized, small-group, and whole-class instruction to students with disabilities.
  • Develop, write, and implement IEPs aligned with students’ present levels of performance, academic needs, and behavioral goals.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and clinical staff to ensure cohesive service delivery.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies, materials, and assessments tailored to each student's learning profile.
  • Monitor student progress and collect data to drive instructional decisions and IEP goal adjustments.
  • Serve as IEP Manager for assigned students, including coordination of meetings and communication with families.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with Belmont Behavioral Health policies and state special education law.
  • Support positive student behavior using proactive, therapeutic, and data-informed behavior management techniques.
  • Participate in professional development and team-based planning to support continuous school improvement.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education or a related field
  • Valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certification in Special Education (N–12, PK–8, 7-12, or equivalent)

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Passion for supporting neurodivergent learners and those with emotional and behavioral needs
  • Ability to build rapport and foster trust with students, families, and staff
  • Knowledge of special education laws, compliance procedures, and IEP development
  • Proficiency in instructional planning, assessment design, and data-driven instruction
  • Understanding of child development, trauma-informed care, and behavioral intervention strategies
  • Ability to navigate and utilize digital tools for instruction, documentation, and communication
  • Flexible, reflective, and collaborative approach to teaching in a dynamic educational environment
