GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: FLSA: Exempt
CCUSD is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and dynamic Special Education Teacher for our Alternative Programs. This position is ideal for an educator who is passionate about working with students who may need specialized instruction and support in a non-traditional learning environment.
The Special Education Teacher will provide individualized instruction and support for students with disabilities, tailoring lessons to meet the specific needs of students in our alternative programs. This role involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including counselors, support staff, and families, to ensure that each student receives the resources they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
MAJOR TASKS:
- Provide special education services to students in the alternative programs, implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and other student support plans.
- Modify and adapt the curriculum to meet the diverse learning needs of students with various disabilities.
- Develop and implement behavior management strategies and interventions to foster a positive learning environment.
- Collaborate with general education teachers and support staff to ensure the integration and success of students with disabilities in the alternative education setting.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide regular feedback to students, families, and the IEP team.
- Participate in the development and review of IEPs, conducting assessments and evaluations as necessary.
- Offer emotional and social support to students, helping them build confidence, resilience, and self-advocacy skills.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, responsibility, and personal growth.
- Work closely with parents and guardians to communicate student progress and provide resources for further support.
- Stay up to date with current special education laws, teaching strategies, and best practices for supporting students with disabilities in alternative settings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid AZ Special Education Certification.
- Experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in an alternative education setting.
- Knowledge of IEP development and implementation, including accommodations and modifications.
- Ability to develop and deliver individualized instruction and interventions.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators, administrators, and support staff.
- Experience working with students who have behavioral and emotional challenges is a plus.
- Passion for working with students in an alternative education setting and supporting their academic and social growth.
