Salary scale placement for Long-Term Substitutes is determined by educational degree completed; however, all Long-Term Substitutes are initially placed at Step 1.

CERTIFICATION:    Valid Pennsylvania Special Education    

POSITION GOAL:

A special education teacher shall possess the knowledge, skills, attitude, flexibility, and responsiveness to meet the specific needs of diverse students within the district in order for each student to make meaningful progress and be empowered to succeed in life and contribute to society.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.

1. Bachelor's Degree.
2. Pennsylvania Special Education Teaching Certification and other required certifications as designated.
3. Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, families, and faculty.
4. Ability to express self clearly and concisely in oral and written communications; and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.
5. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; to plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
6. Well organized with good time management skills.
7. Technology literate; competent with Office applications, assistive technology, special education software programs

Federal Criminal History Record Check (Act 114)
