Special Education Teacher

1.0 Special Education Teacher needed for a Specialized Program at Harborside Middle School.

This position is available immediately.

Current CT Special Education certification (165 or 065) required.

Special Education Teacher Job Duties 

• Provide individualized instruction in accordance with students' Individual Education Plans 
• Develop Individual Education Plans in compliance with state and federal requirements 
• Conduct assessments to determine students' eligibility for special education and develop appropriate programs 
• Collaborate with general education teachers, related services staff, and school personnel to design individualized student programs 
• Supervise and provide professional learning for paraeducators
• Communicate effectively with school staff, families, and outside providers 
• Facilitate Planning and Placement Team meetings, building or department committees as assigned 
• Previous experience with Discrete Trial Instruction (DTI) preferred
• Knowledge of and experience teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorders and/or previous experience teaching in a specialized program preferred
• Experience collecting student data, monitor progress toward students’ IEP goals/objectives, implementing Behavior Intervention Plans, and collaborating with District Behavior Analyst(s)
• Ensure students receive an appropriate educational program in their least restrictive environment
