Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Student Services

Work Year: 2025-2026 School Year

 

Salary: Per Union Contract 

 

Position Description

Provide specialized instruction and case management for student(s) enrolled at Clintonville Elementary School who receive special education services.  Additionally, collaborate with students’ general education teacher(s) and collaborate with students’ service providers to support students’ Individualized Education Plan (IEP); modify curriculum.

 

Education, Qualifications and Expectations

  • Degree in Special Education and State of Connecticut Special Education certification (165);
  • Working knowledge of the co-teaching and consultative models;
  • Collaboration with classroom teachers in a co-teaching and/or consultative role – including lesson development, delivery of differentiated instruction, and analysis of student performance data; 
  • Ability to provide direct academic instruction in a resource room model through specialized instruction;
  • Experience conducting Functional Behavioral Analysis and writing behavioral support plans, analyzing behavioral data;
  • Ability to initiate productive communication to address student concerns with administration, team members, and parents;
  • Develop a daily/weekly schedule of instructional and non-instructional activities for each paraprofessional that supports students on your caseload always with the intent to build students’ independence;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Planning and Placement Team process and legal and related compliance;
  • Become Handle with Care Trained (training provided by District in fall); 
  • Conduct appropriate evaluations and assist other teams in understanding the special education eligibility process for students with or suspected of having a disability, including the use of state guidelines;
  • Demonstrate teacher-leadership qualities to bring initiative and innovation to the special education department in the above areas.
