Special Education Teacher Consultant

Position for the 2026-2027 School Year

Reports to: Director of Special Education


Niles Community Schools is looking for a dynamic Special Education Teacher Consultant.  Highly-effective communication skills and professionalism required for daily interaction with a diverse workforce, student population, building administration and community.  Collaborate with general education, special education and ancillary staff to develop and maintain academic and behavioral programming for students with an Individualized Education Plan.  Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary evaluation team.  Collects, analyzes and interprets data and participates in special education identification process.


Required Qualifications: 

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with endorsement in Special Education
  • Master’s Degree 
  • At least three years successful experience as a classroom teacher (at least two years in special education)

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinates caseload management of assigned classrooms
  • Coordinates temporary placement of new students
  • Coordinates determination of student eligibility with Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team
  • Develops and distributes schedule for IEPs in assigned buildings
  • Chairs IEP meetings and processes required documentation
