Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Special Education Supervisor and Principal, the Teacher Consultant is responsible for providing assistance to students with disabilities. Responsible for providing staff training regarding behavior.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Master’s Degree in Education with a major in Special Education
- Possess a valid Michigan Certificate as a Special Education Teacher or have full approval or be eligible for full approval as a Teacher Consultant, or certified/licensed in School Counseling or Social Work
- Ability and experience with presenting and training staff on various special education topics
- Demonstrated successful specialized instructional methods including data collection, behavior intervention, etc.
- Demonstrated experience working with technology and related software.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, and apply best practices
- Ability to effectively respond to common inquiries from community, regulatory agencies, or members of staff
- Ability to support student academic/behavioral progress
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form
- Demonstrated successful communication skills with students, staff, administrators, parents, and community including multiple agencies
- Professional in personal conduct and actions
- Experience working in the field of Special Education
Desired Characteristics:
- Three years of satisfactory teaching experience with at least two of those teaching in a special education classroom preferred
- Experience in working with school age students.
- Experience using technology as an instructional tool in the classroom
- Experience in working within a Professional Learning Community
- Knowledge in Google Workspace
- Ability to manage time and prioritze tasks with a high level of autonomy
Duties:
- Effectively work with students with disabilities, their families, and school staff
- Develop and implement individual academic and behavioral plans for school and home that generate positive student outcomes
- Recommend and assist with interventions for special education students to increase their academic/behavioral performance
- Meet with special education teachers and students regularly to monitor progress
- Communicate empathetically and effectively with students, staff, and families
- Ability to plan and organize; excellent work habits
- Willing to attend conferences and participate in professional development
- Provide training and workshops for district staff (teachers, bus drivers, para pros, administrators)
- Lead/participate in FBA/PBSP development and follow up
- Participate in student evaluations for special education
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration
