Special Education Teacher

Reports To: Building Level Principal

Description: 

Resource Room Special Education Teacher- Potentially high school students, grade level placement based on experience or preference.  Current special education teachers are willing to change grade levels based on new hire's experinces. 

Qualifications: 

Responsible for teaching groups of students with mild or moderate disabilities. Will modify the existing curriculum on basic subjects to meet each student’s learning requirements and build individual lesson plans tailored to their specific needs. Discuss with parents and support staff about important matters that might impede students’ progress. Ultimately, helps and inspires children to achieve important learning milestones.

  • Valid Michigan teaching certification with endorsement in Learning Disabilities, Emotional Impairments, and/or Cognitive Impairment 

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare for and participate in the IEP/REED process 
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEP for each student on their caseload
  • Analyze and use multiple data points including progress monitoring
  • Effectively plan and organize duties 
  • Demonstrate consistent, effective management of student behavior 
  • Maintain effective communication and relationships with students, parents, administrators, and school personnel.
  • Inform the supervisor and/or general ed. teacher of students’ progress and programmatic concerns 
  • Maintain accurate and timely records
  • Comply with Medicaid billing procedures 
  • Coordinate and conduct effective parent conferences 
  • Demonstrate professional conduct and exhibit professional growth 
  • Comply with school district policies and procedures 
  • Effectively participate in meetings, committees, staffing meetings, and other required district and building activities 
  • Regular and predictable attendance including on-time
  • Demonstrate competency with Illuminate and Power School (Preferred) 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field or holds a teaching certificate and is interested in obtaining a Special Education endorsement. The academy would provide funding for an alternative certification program. 
  • State certification in Special Education
  • Experience working with students with a variety of disabilities, including but not limited to autism, learning disabilities, and emotional/behavioral disorders
  • Knowledge of special education laws and regulations
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills. Countryside has a strong Special Education team that collaborates to ensure the success of our students. 
  • Ability to create and implement effective lesson plans that accommodate the unique needs of each student
  • Patience, flexibility, and a passion for working with students with special needs.

Benefits & Contract Agreements: 

  • 180 Contracted Days
    • 10 paid personal/sick days
    • 7.75 hours per 5 day week (7:15-3:30)
