Special Education Teacher - Early Childhood

Reports To: Special Education Supervisor
Summary:
The Early Childhood Special Education Teacher will provide specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Special Education Teacher shall have duties and responsibilities which include, but are not limited to the following:
- Receive, record, and follow up on referrals for individuals 0-5 years of age.
- Complete observations in the home or preschool classrooms as appropriate.
- Participate in the development of IFSPs/IEPs, complete MET reports and related paperwork, and attend/facilitate IFSP or IEP meetings as required.
- Provide home teaching services to early childhood students, ages 0-5, who are eligible for special education services.
- Complete follow up services when needed.
- Provide parent training and/or group meetings.
- Conduct inservices and public relations activities related to students ages 0-5 when requested.
- Carry out child find responsibilities as outlined by the Supervisor and/or Director of Special Education.
- Evaluate students as a member of a Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team.
- Communicate assessment results to parents.
- Write and teach to annual goals and short term instructional objectives, outlined in the IFSP/IEP.
- Comply with Part C and Part B of IDEA to align with legal requirements for special education.
- Take progress monitoring data and complete progress reports.
- Collaborate with parents, staff and/or administrators to develop educational interventions, behavioral management plans and teaching strategies.
- Presence on the job is an employee’s fundamental obligation. Regular, reliable and punctual attendance is required.
- Remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace through their employment in the district.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

While performing the duties of this job, the Special Education Teacher must be able to do the following:
- May be required to grasp, push, reach, or stoop/kneel/crouch.
- May occasionally be required to lift up to 20 pounds, rarely up to 50 pounds
- Occasionally required to drive to other locations
- Must be able to have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movements to work on computer and/or related office equipment.
- Maintain regular, reliable and punctual attendance. Presence on the job is an employee’s fundamental obligation.
- Remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace through their employment in the district.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a Bachelor’s degree.
- Endorsement in Early Childhood (ZS).
- Must possess a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.
- Additional Special Education endorsements preferred but not required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan Driver’s License.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively.
- Must have own transportation to and from assignments.
- Ability to pass a criminal history check.
Salary Range: The salary will be commensurate with education and demonstrated experience of the successful candidate to fulfill the requirements of the position as determined by administration.
