Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team at Gwinn Middle / High School. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs. This role requires a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment that promotes academic, social, and emotional growth for all students.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs and abilities.
- Provide direct instruction in academic subjects and adaptive skills, utilizing a variety of teaching methods and materials.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instruction and interventions as needed to ensure student success.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and parents to create a cohesive educational experience for students.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and progress toward IEP goals.
- Advocate for students' needs and rights within the school and community.
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development and review of IEPs.
- Stay informed about best practices in special education and implement evidence-based strategies in the classroom.
- Foster a positive and respectful classroom environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
- Provide training and support for staff regarding special education policies and practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Valid state teaching certification in Special Education.
- Experience working with students with disabilities in a classroom setting is preferred.
- Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to create a supportive and nurturing learning environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
