Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced teacher to join our Griffin Special Education Team. The teacher will be responsible for providing educational support to students during the school year to help them maintain academic progress. This is a full time position located at the Griffin School District - a K-8 school in Olympia, Washington. The job description is subject to change by the employer as the needs of the employer and requirements of the job change.

Essential Functions/Duties

  • Serve as the Case Manager/Lead in writing IEP's
  • Design and implement instruction and/or modify district curriculum to deliver to students in the Special Education program
  • Schedule and conduct IEP meetings with parent/guardians and staff
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate effective classroom instruction consistent with building and district curriculum/programs
  • Participate in team planning, programming, and instructional activities focused on improving instructional practices and student learning
  • Diagnose and prescribe learning and training programs for individual students based on aptitude, interest, and level to achieve
  • Develop Instructional Goals and objectives to meet teaching assignment
  • Utilize district and state standards in developing curriculum
  • Recognize individual students’ needs and provide appropriate strategies and interventions
  • Foster and maintain a safe, positive learning environment
  • Cooperate with building principals and staff in implementation of comprehensive instructional and activities programs
  • Prepare teaching materials and reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress
  • Communicate effectively with parents and the school community
  • Serve as a cooperative member of the Special Education and other instructional teams
  • Use and integrate educationally relevant technology
  • Participate in building and district in-service education/training programs
  • Attend building/district meetings and conferences as required
  • Know and observe safety procedures; maintain safe working conditions; comply with safety rules and regulations
  • Protect the interest of the district regarding pilferage, loss, theft or abouts of all district vehicles, equipment and materials
  • Other duties as assigned



Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
*  Strong skills, background and extensive training in your area of endorsement
*  Demonstrated proficiency in writing and oral communication skills
*  Demonstrated ability to connect with students, staff and community members in a mutually respectful, supportive and accessible manner
*  Knowledge of and/or experience related to the state mandated testing and assessment
*  Develop, modify and adjust curriculum to meet the individual needs of students
*  Willingness to benefit from building supervision, evaluation programs and professional development
*  Use district adopted curriculum and assessments
*  Strong student management capabilities
*  Ability to prepare students for successful school experience
*  Demonstrated sensitivity to cultural, developmental, religious and ethnic diversity of student and community
*  Must be punctual and dependable, able to work well with others
*  Follow School Board policies and procedures
*  Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations

GEA Salary Schedule:
$67,687 to $127,578

*  Washington State Law requires all new employees to have a state and national fingerprint background check.
*  The successful candidate will be employed on a conditional basis, subject to a satisfactory background check and approval by the Board of Directors
*  Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of certificated   
    personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience/Licenses/Special Requirements
*  Prior job related experience preferred
*  Washington State teaching credentials for appropriate level of instruction with appropriate endorsement (Special Education)
*  Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance
