POSITION:Teacher - Special Education
REPORTS TO:Building Principal
JOB GOAL: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, responsible, and productive citizens.
The successful candidate will possess the appropriate Massachusetts Educators License and will provide instruction of elementary curriculum to students in their grade level, developing and modifying instructional programs to meet individual student needs. This individual will also work under the general supervision of the building principal and or other designated administrator, manage student behavior, and assess and evaluate student achievement.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide instructional programming for students that aligns with the goals of their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Ensure adequate instructional time, consistent behavior management practices, and integration with support and enrichment/curriculum instruction.
- Create a learning environment that fosters student engagement and promotes effective learning.
- Collaborate in monthly Building-Based Support Team (BBST) meetings to discuss and plan interventions for students at risk.
- Complete all necessary documentation as mandated by law or school administration (i.e., data collection, evaluation reports, IEPs, progress reports)
- Model, guide, and supervise paraprofessionals, if assigned, by delegating relevant tasks and instructional responsibilities based on their experience and ability.
- Conduct Academic Achievement Evaluations through standardized testing.
- Regularly assess student accomplishments and provide progress as required.
- Communicate with parents to foster a collaborative family partnership that aligns with the school's mission and promotes student growth.
- Participate in school-based professional learning and innovations.
- Engage in Special Education training as requested by the Director of Student Services.
- Actively participate in the contractually approved teacher evaluation process, contributing to a mutual agreement regarding evaluation results.
- Additional duties may be assigned.
MA DESE license required, 5-12 Moderate Disabilities
Spanish and/or Portuguese speaking preferred.
A two day New Teacher Orientation will take place on August 18th and 19th.
The first day of school for teachers will be August 25th.
