Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team at Parkside Primary. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing tailored educational support to students with diverse learning needs. This position requires a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom environment, enabling all students to achieve their full potential.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and parents to create and maintain a cohesive support system for students.
- Assess students' progress and adapt instructional strategies to meet their unique needs.
- Provide direct instruction in academic, social, and life skills to students with varying disabilities.
- Monitor and document student performance and behavior, providing regular updates to parents and school administration.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices and stay current with best practices in special education.
- Advocate for students' needs and coordinate with outside agencies and resources as necessary.
- Manage classroom behavior and implement effective strategies to support positive social interactions among students.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation as required by school policies and regulations.
Requirements
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate Special Education Endorsement.
- Experience working with students with disabilities in a classroom setting is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation processes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to create engaging lesson plans and adapt instructional materials to meet diverse learning needs.
- Patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment.
- Proficiency in using technology for instructional purposes and record-keeping.
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
