    Title:  Special Education Teacher

    Job DescriptionThe Special Education Teacher provides high quality instruction to students with disabilities.

    Qualifications:
    1. Hold valid New York State Special Education Teacher Certification 
    2. Knowledge of NYS Learning Standards
    3. Knowledge of Committee on Special Education process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal writing, implementation and progress monitoring.
    4. Experience with providing special education students with learning experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth in the least restrictive environment 
    5. Experience with developing and/or modifying curriculum, preparing lessons and providing specially designed instruction to address individual student needs
    6. Experience with establishing and maintain open communication with parents, students, teachers and other relevant stakeholders
    7. Flexibility to meet the needs of a range of student learners
    8. In-depth knowledge of effective interventions
    9. Ability to work effectively with a variety of staff
    10. Strong communication skills
    11. Proven success working with students
    12. Strong organizational and planning skills

     Responsibilities: Shall include but are not limited to the following:
    1. Differentiate instruction based upon student learning styles;
    2. Utilize data information systems and engage in data analysis in order to formulate  action plans to support students;
    3. Participate in the Committee on Special Education process,  Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal writing, implementation and progress monitoring.
    4. Provide special education students with learning experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth in the least restrictive environment 
    5. Develop and/or modify curriculum, prepare lessons and provide specially designed instruction to address individual student needs
    6. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding special education and students
    7. Ability to engage culturally diverse students; and
    8. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders 
    9. Other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Director of Elementary or Secondary Special Education or other district office administration  

    Terms of Employment:
    The position of Special Education Teacher  is a ten-month position.  The terms established in accordance with the contract between the Superintendent of Schools and the Victor Teachers’ Association.

    Evaluation: Per the contract between Victor Central Schools and the Victor Central Teachers’ Association.

    Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Elementary or Secondary Special Education

    Salary: Minimum starting salary $48,502/year (negotiable based on experience), as per the Victor Teachers' Association agreement. The VTA contract can be found on the Victor Central School District website under the Human Resources tab.
