Position: Special Education Teacher – Maternity Leave (Temporary Position)

Overview:
Community High School District 218 is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Special Education Teacher to serve in a temporary maternity leave position. This educator will support students with disabilities through high-quality instruction, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and the implementation of individualized education plans. The ideal candidate will be flexible, collaborative, and committed to maintaining continuity of services and instruction during the leave period. This position may include supporting co-taught, resource, or self-contained programming depending on student and departmental needs.
Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality, individualized instruction aligned to student IEP goals in assigned settings
- Serve as the acting case manager for assigned students, including progress monitoring and timely communication with families and teams
- Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and administrators to support student success
- Deliver specially designed instruction and implement accommodations/modifications based on student needs
- Utilize data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
- Maintain a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement and self-advocacy
- Participate in IEP meetings, as appropriate, and support ongoing team collaboration
- Continue established classroom routines and instructional plans to ensure consistency for students during the leave period
Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an LBS1 endorsement
- Experience working with high school students with a wide range of disabilities preferred
- Strong understanding of IEP development, SMART goal writing, and progress monitoring practices
- Ability to differentiate instruction and modify curriculum to meet student needs
- Effective collaboration and communication skills with students, families, and staff
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records
- Commitment to supporting inclusive, equitable learning environments
