Special Education Teacher

Position Overview: Fremont RE-2 School District is seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and student-centered Special Education Teacher to provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Colorado Department of Education requirements, and District procedures.
The Special Education Teacher works under the direction of the Building Principal and the Director of Special Education to develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), provide specially designed instruction, support inclusive educational practices, and support students with disabilities in accessing appropriate educational opportunities.
This position serves as the case manager for assigned students and works collaboratively with families, general education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and administrators to support student progress, compliance, and success.
Qualifications
- Valid Colorado Department of Education license with appropriate Special Education endorsement required, or ability to obtain appropriate licensure as permitted by the Colorado Department of Education
- Experience working with students with learning, behavioral, and/or physical disabilities preferred
- Knowledge of special education law, procedures, and compliance requirements related to IDEA and Colorado regulations
- Ability to develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including measurable goals, objectives, accommodations, and services
- Ability to develop and support behavior intervention plans and appropriate student support strategies
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and support students in resource, inclusion, and other educational settings
- Ability to collaborate effectively with general education teachers, special education staff, paraprofessionals, related service providers, administrators, students, and families
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to assist with Response to Intervention (RTI)/Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) processes as appropriate
- Demonstrated skills in literacy instructional strategies, including assessment, intervention, and progress monitoring
- Must be trained in, or willing to be trained in, District-approved crisis prevention/intervention procedures and assume a crisis team leadership role when appropriate
- Successful completion of all required criminal background checks and fingerprinting
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Specialized Instruction and Student Support
- Provide specially designed instruction to students with disabilities based on individual learning needs and IEP goals.
- Develop and implement instructional strategies designed to improve academic, behavioral, functional, and social-emotional outcomes for students.
- Use assessment data, progress monitoring, and student performance information to guide instruction and improve student outcomes.
- Support students in resource rooms, inclusion settings, and other service delivery models as determined by IEP teams.
- Establish and maintain safe, inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environments for students.
IEP Development and Case Management
- Serve as the case manager for assigned students and support compliance with IDEA, Colorado Department of Education requirements, and District procedures.
- Develop, write, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with families and IEP team members.
- Develop measurable annual goals and objectives based on student needs, evaluation data, and present levels of academic and functional performance.
- Coordinate, conduct, or assist with evaluations, assessments, progress monitoring, and educational planning within the scope of licensure, training, and District procedures.
- Prepare and maintain accurate student records, progress reports, meeting documentation, and compliance-related paperwork in a timely manner.
Compliance and Documentation
- Maintain accurate and timely IEP documentation, progress reports, service documentation, and compliance records.
- Support compliance with required procedural safeguards, including Prior Written Notice, in collaboration with the special education team and in accordance with IDEA, state regulations, and District procedures.
- Support and monitor the implementation and documentation of services, accommodations, and modifications consistent with each student's IEP.
- Meet required timelines for evaluations, annual reviews, reevaluations, progress reporting, and other special education processes.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and personally identifiable information in accordance with FERPA, IDEA, and District procedures.
Collaboration and Team Support
- Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, paraprofessionals, related service providers, administrators, and families to support student achievement and access to the general education curriculum.
- Coordinate with related service providers to support implementation of services and recommendations consistent with each student's IEP.
- Provide direction, guidance, and oversight to paraprofessionals supporting assigned students and promptly communicate concerns regarding implementation, student safety, or service delivery to administration or the special education team.
- Support general education staff in implementing accommodations, modifications, behavior supports, and instructional strategies.
- Participate in RTI/MTSS processes, problem-solving teams, staff meetings, IEP meetings, and professional learning opportunities.
- Build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues to promote student success and school-wide collaboration.
Behavior Support and Student Safety
- Develop and support appropriate behavior plans, interventions, and positive behavior supports for students with disabilities.
- Participate in crisis prevention, intervention, and response procedures when trained and necessary to ensure student and staff safety.
- Follow District procedures and state law related to student safety, supervision, mandatory reporting, and crisis response.
- Maintain professional judgment, confidentiality, and ethical conduct in all student-related matters.
Professional Responsibilities
- Demonstrate professionalism through ethical conduct, reflection, collaboration, and ongoing professional growth.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, staff, and administrators.
- Remain current with special education practices, instructional strategies, compliance expectations, and District procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the needs of students, the school, and the District.
Physical and Work Requirements
- Ability to actively supervise and engage with students throughout the school day.
- Ability to assist with student mobility, positioning, or physical support when necessary and appropriately trained.
- Ability to respond to behavioral or safety situations in accordance with District procedures and training.
- Ability to complete required documentation, attend meetings, and manage case management responsibilities in a timely manner.

Salary and Benefits
- Salary according to the District-approved Certified Teacher Salary Schedule
- District may accept up to twenty (20) years of verified experience for salary placement
