JOB SUMMARY
Eastside Catholic High School is seeking a Special Education Teacher for the 2025-26 school year to join the high school special education program called the Options Program and be a secondary department member in the Learning Support department. The Options Program serves students with mild to moderate intellectual, developmental and cognitive disabilities. The applicant will have a passion for teaching students with disabilities, demonstrate excellent communication and strongly believe in each student’s ability to master the functional and adaptive skills needed to live actively and independently in their community. Options courses are individualized and include Reading, Literature, Math, Science, Careers, Communications and Social Skills, Social Studies, Health, Music Therapy, History, Religious Studies and Technology. This position also serves our Learning Support Program which provides accommodations to qualifying students.
Specific Responsibilities
- Procure and prepare individualized instructional curriculum, instructional materials, and lesson plans according to students’ learning needs.
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, learning targets and projects and communicate those objectives to students.
- Collaborate with department staff members, parents, and students to develop student goals.
- Plan and use a variety of individualized instructional and learning strategies, activities and classroom materials that reflect an understanding of student’s learning styles and needs.
- Employ various instructional techniques, methods and media to meet the needs and capabilities of each student.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Establish and manage student behavior and apply intervention strategies in the classroom and schoolhouse.
- Employ and implement a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect consistent with school policies and procedures.
- Proctor assessments for students with accommodations
- Assist in preparing and updating learning support plans
- Support Academic Resources classes as directed
Requirements
- Commitment to working with students with a wide range of intellectual and developmental disabilities
- Possess effective skills in creating positive relationships with students and their families
- Experience providing specialized learning experiences designed to help students fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional and social growth
- Believe in and provide a play-based learning environment, encouraging students learning and inquiry through interactions that stretch development of skills, concepts, language acquisition, communication skills and concentration.
- Experience modifying and adapting a broad range of curricula to meet all cognitive levels.
- Strong interpersonal, collaborative and organizational skills
- Demonstrate discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Proficient with Microsoft Office; confident in ability to learn and use new technology including assistive technologies
- A commitment to practices that promote equity, inclusion and belonging
Education and experience - Bachelor's degree or higher with a focus in special education
- Proven experience teaching at the high school level in special education
- Special education teaching certificate preferred
- A graduate degree in special education is preferred
Salary: $54,500-$109,105 annually
Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications.
