     Steamboat Springs School District is seeking qualified Substitute School Health Tech Paraprofessionals

     



    This position is considered a temporary position for the school year and is paid on an hourly basis $26.11 per hour. 
    As a temporary/on call position it is not eligible for benefits. 


    Position summary: A School Health Technician Paraprofessional Substitute supports student health needs by providing basic first aid, maintaining health records, and assisting with various health-related tasks under the supervision of a school nurse or other health professionals. They document student health information, administer medications, and report concerns to the appropriate authorities. May perform specialized health care services, such as daily living care assistance to students, as supervised by the School Nurse.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

     
    • Provide designated direct health care services within the individual’s ability and training for students; follow up on health care referrals. 

    • Document health information in individual student health record, electronic health record, and/or health room log; assists the nurse with clerical duties, record keeping and immunization records.

    • Maintain files and update student health records; prepares appropriate reports for serious accidents or injury

    • Ability to work under day-to-day direction from a school nurse. Consult with the school nurse regarding the student's health status, particularly when unstable or questionable.

    • Administers medication to students according to the school nurse direction, district and state guidelines.  

    • Administer emergency first aid and CPR in accordance with established protocols. Awareness and education in the use of AED.

    • Adhere to requirements of confidentiality regarding student’s records; discreetly handle sensitive information pertaining to students, parents and staff.

    • Responds efficiently to requests for service and keeps principal and office staff informed of any health related problems.  At the direction of the school nurse, contact parents as appropriate.

    • Acts as liaison between school, parents, students and community.

    • Ability to interpret and follow school and state policies/procedures and use of best practices in day to day decision making.

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume healthcare setting with constant interruptions and prioritize health office duties

    • Other duties as assigned

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

     
    • High School Diploma or equivalent

    • Valid CPR certification required or willing to obtain within 60 days of hire. Please upload Current CPR cert if you currently have valid certificate.

    • First Aid Certification preferred

    • Healthcare experience/education preferred

    • Able and willing to complete Medication administration training and other training provided 

    • Successful completion of FBI/CBI fingerprint background check

    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills 

    • Organizational and clerical skills; High attention to accuracy and detail

    • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Google platform and Microsoft Office Suite

    • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Errors made in decision-making could potentially result in substantial cost to the District or damage the credibility of the District.

     

    Language Skills:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations.   Ability to effectively present information and respond professionally to questions from parents and staff.

     

    Mathematical Skills:  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, discounts, commissions, proportions, percentage, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, and geometry

     

    Reasoning Ability:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract concrete variables. Ability to analyze and use data to supervise the delivery of instruction and the school improvement process.

     

    Technology Skills:  Proficient use of technology which includes: basic operations and concepts, word processing, spread sheets, internet usage, critical evaluation of information, data analysis, email, integration of technology.

     

    Other Skills and Abilities:  Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in education.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.  Ability to copy, coordinate, instruct, evaluate and negotiate.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to discipline students consistent with district procedures.  Ability to maintain confidentiality.

     

    Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.  The employee may occasionally need to lift 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
