    Phoenix-Talent Schools is seeking applications for the position of:
    TEMPORARY 1.0 FTE SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER - Talent Middle School

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  This 1.0 FTE temporary position will begin as soon as possible through the remainder of the 2025-26 school year.
     
    SALARY:   As determined by negotiated salary schedule
     
    JOB DESCRIPTION:   The successful candidate will implement instructional/behavioral plans for student; coordinate the mainstreaming/ supported education component; work as a consultant with regular education staff and administration. 
    The successful candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, knowledge and ability to implement effective teaching practices, possess the ability to work as an effective team member and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff and parents. Must be committed to continuous professional growth and be a positive role model for the school� community.
     
    This position requires a commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment for all students. The successful candidate will demonstrate a dedication to ensuring all students have the opportunity to succeed, recognizing and addressing barriers to academic achievement.
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Valid Oregon Teaching License with Handicapped Learners endorsement, or Special Education License with an Elementary Endorsement or successful completion of ORELA or qualification for HOUSSE evaluation.
    2. Ability to use research based instructional methods with children who have various disabilities, and instruct staff in ways to help implement these methods within the school setting..
    3. A valid Oregon driver's license.
    4. Demonstrate ability to work with teachers, students and public tactfully and courteously.
    5. Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively with outside agencies.
    6. An ability to handle high levels of stress and multi-tasking in a satisfactory manner.
    7. An ability and willingness to share job knowledge with others
    8. Physical demands needed: ability to communicate with students, co-workers, and the public; ability to communicate over the telephone; ability to respond to telephone, bells, students, co-workers, etc.; ability to respond to workplace disturbances, visual cues, requests, etc.; ability to read written materials; ability to operate office equipment; ability to carry or lift loads of up to 50 pounds; and occasionally climb a ladder. Due to the nature of the student population served, employees in this position may be exposed to challenging behaviors, including but not limited to hitting, kicking, biting, or throwing objects. Staff may be required to participate in the safe physical management of students during crisis situations in accordance with district policies and approved safety training.

    PREFERENCES:
    Preference may be given to those who are bilingual/biliterate in English and Spanish.
     
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Schedule and maintain a flexible calendar to accommodate the needs of students, staff, and parents.
    2. Maintain effective communication with others to informing them of changes to routine and calendar.
    3. Work as a team member in conducting assessments and evaluating children as part of the IEP and pre-referral process.
    4. Generate documents that inform others of the needs of children, and how best to educate them.
    5. Act as a consultative resource to staff regarding the learning needs of children.
    6. Implementing educational procedures.
    7. Writes and generates effective IEP goals and documentation.
    8. Schedules and assists in conducting IEP assessments and IEP meetings.
    9. Maintain accurate IEP documentation and data reporting on all students served.
    10. Assist in State compliance process.
    11. Maintain and encourages others to build and maintain best-practices knowledge and skills in the areas of education.
    12. Use supplied computer based data systems for writing IEPs, scoring assessments, and participating in email communications.
